Gigahertz

Above twelve-ninety megahertz,
Is the band I love so well,
Where the Germans cause me weltschmerz
And the French they cause me hell
And the Royal Dutchmen's radar drowns
The calls from distant lands
As we tune the dial with burnished frowns,
Stout hearts, and sweaty hands.

---------Come you ay, come you ay,
---------Be you straight or be you gay,
---------To the land above one gigahertz
---------Where the distant radars play.
---------Raise a dish or raise a yagi
---------If it microwaves can spray.
---------Seek a distant morse code signal
---------Crying ever "come you ay".

There's a lonely dish antenna
Sitting by a Polish bay
And it beckons e'er so sweetly
Crying always "come you ay".
Across the seas the Vikings sailed
Its sweet concerto calls
But O! The QRB is great!
Far short the signal falls!

---------Come you ay, come you ay,
---------Be you straight or be you gay,
---------To the land above one gigahertz
---------Where the distant radars play.
---------Raise a dish or raise a yagi
---------If it microwaves can spray.
---------Seek a distant morse code signal
---------Crying ever "come you ay".

There's a contest team in Stockholm,
Far beyond the grey North Sea
Sending CQ Test above its foam
But never calling me.
One night those magic tropo ducts
Will form above that brine
As joyfulness our heart abducts
To hear that faint callsign.

---------Come you ay, come you ay,
---------Be you straight or be you gay,
---------To the land above one gigahertz
---------Where the distant radars play.
---------Raise a dish or raise a yagi
---------If it microwaves can spray.
---------Seek a distant morse code signal
---------Crying ever "come you ay".

And through the Dutchmen's radar comes,
A faintly sounding call,
It's a DF6 in Frankfurt
Wishing seven-three to all.
The clock strikes two, we start our sked
With the Czech boys, far and rare.
When we hear that fluttery morse code
We shout out our vict'ry prayer.

---------Come you ay, come you ay,
---------Be you straight or be you gay,
---------To the land above one gigahertz
---------Where the distant radars play.
---------Raise a dish or raise a yagi
---------If it microwaves can spray.
---------Seek a distant morse code signal
---------Crying ever "come you ay".

From old Waterford to Dresden
We can hear and work them all
And from Glasgow down to Lyon
We hear their plaintive call.
If in Amsterdam or Oslo,
In New York or Mandalay
That band above one gigahertz
Is still crying "come you ay".
